Overview:
Regular cleaning and maintenance of your keyboard and mouse are crucial, not just for hygiene but also for the devices' optimal performance. Over time, dust, debris, and other particles can build up, affecting the functionality and response of these peripherals. This article guides you through the cleaning process to ensure longevity and reliability.

Objective:
You will learn the best practices for cleaning and maintaining your keyboard and mouse to ensure smooth operation.

Steps:

Keyboard:

  1. Turn off your computer or disconnect the keyboard.
  2. Turn the keyboard upside down and gently shake it to remove any loose debris.
  3. Use compressed air (can be purchased at most electronic stores) to blow out any remaining particles between keys.
  4. Take a lint-free cloth, dampen it slightly with isopropyl alcohol, and gently wipe the key surfaces. Do not let any liquid get under the keys.
  5. For deep cleaning, consider removing the keys. Use a keycap puller or a flat tool, but be gentle to avoid damaging the keys or the switches beneath.

Mouse:

  1. Disconnect the mouse from your computer.
  2. For an optical mouse, gently wipe the bottom sensor using a soft cloth.
  3. For a ball mouse (less common), open the bottom, remove the ball, and clean it with a damp cloth. Also, use a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol to clean inside where the ball sits.
  4. Wipe the top and sides of the mouse with a cloth slightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol.

Precautions:

  • Always ensure that your devices are disconnected before cleaning.
  • Do not use too much liquid, as this can damage electronic components.
  • Avoid abrasive materials or cleaners, as they can scratch or damage your devices.
